What is leaving sticky residue on the leaves of my citrus plants?

Our Advice:

This is honeydew, which has been excreted by either mealy bugs or scale insects as they feed on the plant. It may eventually become covered in a black sooty mould fungus if not dealt with. The best control is to spray with Bug and Fungus Killer from Doff or Resolva Bug Killer from Westland.
