Vine weevil
Description
Adult weevils are about 9mm long and greyish black with pale yellow markings on their back. The juveniles are C-shaped, white, legless grubs with light brown or black heads.
Symptoms
The adult females feed on host plants before laying eggs (up to 800 per year). They cause irregular-shaped notches of leaf margins during the summer and autumn. The grubs are found in soil or compost feeding among the roots of plants. Plants often wilt and die during autumn or spring as a result of the roots being eaten. They attack a wide range of plants, both indoors and outside.
