These plants are frost-tender so the underground rhizome must never get frozen or the plant will die. Keep the plant somewhere frost-free, such as a greenhouse, well-lit porch or conservatory and wrap the pot in bubble plastic. Cut the shoots down to just above compost level and don't water again until you see signs of growth in spring.
