Why is my new gardenia shedding its flower buds?

Our Advice:

These plants can be very temperamental and if their roots dry out or get too wet (even for a short period), gardenia often reacts by shedding buds. Stand the pot on a saucer of gravel and only water (with soft water) into the saucer. That way, the plant takes up what it needs and some water can evaporate to keep the leaves moist.
