Trim the plant lightly after flowering has finished to prevent it becoming bare at the base. Avoid cutting back into old, bare, leafless stems as they usually die back rather than produce new growth. These are not long-lived plants, so use some of the prunings as semi-ripe cuttings to produce some replacement plants.
