How do I divide a bird of Paradise plant?

Our Advice:

In the spring, remove the plant from its container and wash away the compost with a hosepipe. Untangle the thick, fleshy roots to see where the plants join. Carefully cut the plant sections apart. Repot each section into free-draining, peat-based compost and water well.
