Why do my cauliflowers start to grow and then go to seed?

Our Advice:

It sounds like your cauliflowers have started to 'bolt' - where the plant panics and tries to produce seed prematurely. The most common causes for this are either dry conditions at the transplanting stage or cold soil at the time of planting. Both conditions can cause a check in the plant's development.
