This is a mineral deficiency called bitter pit, caused by a lack of calcium. You can apply Garden Lime from Westland under the tree in early spring or apply foliar sprays of calcium nitrate as Calcium Multi-action from Chempak from mid-June to mid-September to increase calcium levels. Also, keep susceptible trees well watered.
