What is making my pear fruits turn black and drop off?

Our Advice:

Grubs of pear midge feed inside the fruits, causing them to abort. Rake up and burn all fallen fruitlets. Next year (after petal fall) spray the tree with PY Insect Killer from Vitax or Provanto Ultimate Fruit & Vegetable Bug Killer from Bayer to kill the adults before they lay eggs.
