The ideal time to prune this shrub is just after flowering. Evergreen plants have a major surge of growth in late spring, so any pruning cuts you make should quickly heal over. Wear gloves when handling this plant as the sap can cause blistering on the skin. Also, all parts of this plant are toxic if they are chewed or eaten.
