Plums are usually pruned when they are in full leaf to avoid the pruning cuts becoming infected with silver leaf fungus. This fungus usually produces infectious spores between October and April. Many gardeners prune straight after harvest, then they can prune any branches damaged by a heavy crop of fruit.
