Founded by New Covent Garden Market in 2013, British Flowers Week is an annual, national celebration of the wealth and variety of British cut flowers, plants and foliage. From June 12th to 19th, 2022, we will once again be shining the spotlight on our flower wholesalers, independent florists and the wider flower industry to show the nation why we should be so proud of British flowers and how we can incorporate them into our everyday lives.
The aim is to:
Showcase great British flowers, plants and foliage through great British floristry
Raise awareness of which British flowers are in season when
Encourage the public to buy more British flowers
British people are increasingly demanding more locally grown flowers to celebrate the seasons and support their domestic growers. Often scented, British flowers have a natural charm, beauty and that just-picked freshness that makes them the florist’s favourite.
Until the 1970s, the only flowers you could buy came from flower farmers across Britain. Today, the majority of the flowers in your high street flower shop will have been grown by large scale commercial growers and routed through Dutch auctions.
All flowers have their place, but British Flowers Week is backing homegrown flowers, plants and foliage and with the support of the floral industry, bringing British back.
